My frequent client who produces plays and works with many non-profits in Washington DC needed a poster designed very quickly. The main character of the play is Sojourner Truth, the 19th century abolitionist, women’s rights activist, and former slave.
I choose to illustrate Sojourner Truth as a powerful woman breaking free from her chains. Not coincidentally, her arms are raised in the stance of “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” as the performance took place shortly after the murder of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo.
